Now that spring is in the air, it is time to make some necessary changes to the everyday skincare program. With these simple skincare products and skincare treatments, skin will be refreshed and rejuvenated.
Exfoliate: The winter air usually causes dry, chapped skin, not just to the face but also to the body. For the body, apply a sugar or salt scrub while in the shower. A salt scrub can be more healing, but if there are any cuts or skin abrasions, it could cause pain. A favorite of mine is Rejuvn8 by Whole Food Farmacy. It is an all natural skincare product that deep cleanses and helps rehydrate the body. It will also help improve the softness of the skin and remove build up caused by makeup, dead skin, and the environment. It is safe to use on the face as well. It can be oily, so it might not be the best product for the face if you have oily or combination skin. A home microdermabrasion set will exfoliate the face and give additional benefits such as skin rejuvenation.
Sunscreen: Although it is important to wear sunscreen all year round, the amount of time one spends in the sun during spring and summer does increase. Make sure to apply at least a SPF 15 sunscreen to the entire body that is exposed to the sun. Don’t forget the hands!
Update Skincare Program: During the harsh winter winds it was probably necessary to add an additional moisturizer to provide an extra barrier for the skin. Now that it is starting to warm up, it is definitely time to put away an extra moisturizer. For combination and oily skin, it might be necessary to switch to an oil control lotion as well.
Tan: Nothing makes it feel more like spring than when a little color starts to appear on the skin. A healthy tan is very important. Avoiding harmful UVA and UVB rays from the sun and tanning beds is important to healthy skin. The safest way to get a tan is from a spray tan or a tanning lotion. My favorite is Coppertone’s Gradual Tan.
Update foundation: Because we are getting a little more color from the warming sun (or the tanning lotion!); it will be necessary to change the current foundation color. Usually just going a shade darker is all that is needed. A formula change might also be necessary. A lighter formula is usually the best in warmer weather.
Pedicure: Treat yourself to a pedicure. It is now sandal weather and those toes have been covered for too long! Can’t go to the spa for a pedicure? Give yourself an at-home pedicure and freshen up those toes with a bright toe nail polish.
