There is nothing better than a nice warm pair of wool gloves to help you enjoy a walk in the cool air of an autumn breeze. Once the gloves come off, it can get ugly.

It's pretty common knowledge that cold air is not a friend of soft supple skin. During the fall and winter months the skin on your hands can be especially sensitive to the drastic changes in temperature as you breeze from indoors to outdoors and back again. Lotions that are not made from natural ingredients can work in the short term, but do little to heal dry cracking skin in the long haul.

Natural and organic lotions like those made by Organic Fiji and the earth's natural healer shea butter, made by Alaffia SkinCare can heal your skin and help to keep your hands from looking like the last brittle leaves on the trees.

For those of you who are the hardcore do-it-yourself-ers, here are some at home natural recipes for healing your winter blues:

So Soft Hands Olive Oil Recipe:

  • 2 Tbsp Organic Olive Oil
  • 1 Tsp Lavender Oil
  • Warm moist towel

Mix the oils together in a glass bowl and rub the mixture on both hands in a nice thick layer. Wrap your hands in the warm towel and leave the oil on your hands for 5-10 minutes. Wash hands with gentle (non-antibacterial) soap and enjoy your new skin. You can quickly treat your hands with this every few days.

While you are waiting those 5-10 minutes, think about all the people in your life you are grateful for and send each one a positive thought or blessing for continues peace, health and happiness.

Socks + Lotion = Soft Hands

  • Favorite Natural Lotion or Coconut Oil
  • Saran Wrap or towel
  • Pair of old warm sock

After a warm (hot water can rob necessary moisture from your skin) shower, slather your hands with your favorite natural lotion or coconut oil. Wrap your hands with either saran wrap or a very thin tea towel. Pull on a sock on each hand and relax for 5-10 minutes. As you are waiting for the potion to work, try a few of your favorite standing yoga stretches to kick-start your circulation and get you ready for the day.

Warm Winter Hand Soak Recipe

  • Warm filtered water
  • Chamomile or Sage

Soak your hands in a glass bowl of the above ingredients for 10-15 minutes. Once you are done, slather your hands in your favorite natural lotion. This is a great weekly rescue for winter hands. While you are soaking your beautiful hands, listen to your favorite relaxing music and sing out loud like nobody is listening.

Tips Soft Sexy Hands

  • Wear cotton cleaning gloves while cleaning and washing hands.
  • Massage your hands with almond oil once a week
  • Wear gloves when going out into the cool air
  • Manicures with natural products go a long way to keeping hands soft and sexy

Enjoy!

I swear by oil based products for my hands. Used to have contact dermatitis then a friend recommended Emu Oil. The new hand cream is AMAZING. Great article, I'll be trying this.
