Avocados are a must-have for beautiful skin and hair. Avocados have more nourishing natural oils than any other fruit.

Using avocado as a beauty fruit supports and encourages beautiful skin and hair. Avocados, also called “alligator pears,” are native to Central America. They have been considered a powerful fruit throughout history.

Avocados, in addition to being a beauty fruit, have been said to boost immunity and lower cholesterol. Avocados aid in weight loss and have a wide variety of vitamins and minerals that are vital for overall health. The fat content in avocados is extremely high, reaching almost 30 grams, but it is the kind of “good” fat that the body needs to absorb fat soluble vitamins such as vitamin E. This fat content is also one of the factors that make avocados a great natural option for beautiful skin and hair.

Skin

An avocado mask on the face is perfect for an intense moisture treatment that is preventative against fine lines and wrinkles.

  • Vitamin A in avocados restores skin’s youthful appearance.
  • B vitamins, also found in avocados, help balance oil production to keep skin from drying out or becoming too oily.
  • Avocados also contain the free radical scavenger vitamin E. It actively protects skin from environmental damage such as sun and pollution as it repairs damage from these sources as well.

Technique

  • Simply mash enough of 1 avocado to make a smooth cream for the face.
  • Leave the avocado on the face for 20 minutes and rinse with warm water.
  • Use this avocado mask once or twice a week to maintain beautiful and young looking skin.

Hair

Hair is composed of protein and B vitamins, so the array of B vitamins in avocados will nourish vitamin deprived hair while vitamins A and E will restore shine and overall health.

  • The rich oils and protein in avocados are a wonderful treatment for dried out or frizzy hair.
  • Avocados' natural oils go deep into each strand to strengthen and restore moisture to brittle hair.
  • This avocado hair treatment is perfect for colder seasonal changes or when traveling to a colder or drier climate.

Technique

  • The amount of avocado needed depends on the length of hair.
  • Distribute a thick coat of mashed avocado evenly throughout hair and cover with a shower cap.
  • Leave the avocado in the hair for 20 minutes and shampoo as usual.

Because it most likely will not be necessary to use a whole avocado for a skin or hair treatment, cut the avocado in half and leave the pit in the side not being used. This will keep the unused half of the avocado from turning brown. Leave the avocado in the refrigerator, and if a beauty treatment is not necessary, cut it up in a salad or make some guacamole.
